Karak: According to news reports, If the deputy director of irrigation of the Kohat division does not cancel the tenders for the Kotal dam, the provincial and district contractors groups have threatened to boycott development work tenders.
Haji Rafiullah, a member of the provincial contractors association, and Umer Hayat Khattak, president of the contractors’ association in Karak, claimed that the irrigation department official had broken the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Procurement Regulation Authority rules in awarding the tenders at a press conference here on Friday.
They stated that the official had rejected documents from certain contractors using various bogus grounds to facilitate the granting of contracts to his blue-eyed associates.
They claimed the deputy director threatened them with not being allowed to participate in the bidding process, but when they resisted, he rejected their documents alleging technical problems.
They urged that the tenders be held in Karak, not Kohat, at the irrigation department’s office.
They also requested that the chief minister rescind all tenders that had been issued recently.
