Lahore: The first phase of the Ravi Riverfront Metropolis would begin shortly, most likely in the first week of October, and would be finished ahead of schedule, since international investors had been encouraged to participate in the new city on the fringes of the provincial capital.
The features of the new Ravi city, which will be built on the Dubai and Singapore models, will be visible in three to four years. Ravi city will be spread over 100,000 acres and its buildings will be architectural masterpieces for the world, according to a Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) official here on Thursday.
Locals would be given priority in jobs, health care, and education in the new city being built on the banks of the old Ravi, he said, adding that residents of the region chosen for the development of Ravi Riverfront City will have the first right to jobs and a quota will be set aside for them.
He said that a new city was urgently needed since Lahore was facing various difficulties as a result of poor municipal planning, and that the city’s master plan should have been changed multiple times in the past but was not. Ravi City, with a 46-kilometer length and 3,280-foot breadth and a 33-foot high wall surrounding it, would be a gift to the people of Lahore.
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) received 171 proposals to build housing societies on the Ravi City site, but the LDA did not accept them. However, the authority would engage agriculture specialists to begin modern farming in the new city.
