Lahore: According to news sources published on Saturday, the World Bank (WB) has announced its intention to support the Punjab government’s efforts to increase access to affordable housing and to assist in the formulation of a comprehensive strategy to this end.
The WB will assist the Punjab government in aligning the ‘Punjab Affordable Housing Programme’ with the ‘Naya Pakistan Housing Programme’ in order to better coordinate both programmes and harness federal resources that will be available for interventions in Punjab, according to the information.
Furthermore, the WB’s technical assistance will strengthen institutions, policy reforms, and the housing supply’s efficiency and effectiveness. The project’s appraisal will begin next month, and the executive board is likely to authorise financing in February.
According to reports, the Punjab government requested WB’s help in establishing an affordable housing project to help low-income people find housing. The project’s total cost is USD 200 million.
