Karachi: According to media sources, US Consul General Mark Stroh announced on Monday (September 20) that the US government will assist the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) in restoring and renovating Frere Hall-Karachi.

Cultural Affairs Specialist Dr Kaleem Lashari, US Consulate Deputy Consul General and Cultural Officer, KMC Metropolitan Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, Director General Parks and Horticulture Liaqat Ali Khan Qaimkhani, and other officials accompanied the US Consul General.
Administrator Karachi and Barrister Murtaza Wahab were said to have greeted the US Consul General and other guests to Frere Hall and toured the various aspects of the structure. The US Consul General, according to sources, is interested in Saddiqen Art Gallery and Frere Hall Library.

Dr. Kaleem Lashari, a Cultural Affairs Specialist, lectured the guests on the building’s history throughout the visit. He went on to remark that the structure was one of the most important structures built in Karachi during British administration. He said that it was originally converted into a town hall and library, but that an art gallery was eventually constructed to display calligraphy and paintings.
