Lahore: On Monday, a court of accountability found two accused guilty of defrauding a cooperative housing scheme.

The court sentenced retired Maj Zulfiqar Ali, the former secretary general of the Punjab Small Industries Cooperative Society, to 14 years in prison and a fine of Rs. 740 million, as well as Asghar Suleman, a former member of the society’s management committee, to seven years in prison and a fine of Rs. 3.5 million.

According to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the accused defrauded the general public by selling them illegitimate land in the guise of the housing organisation. The NAB had filed a reference in 2008 against three suspects. The third suspect namely Asad Manzoor was declared absconder by the trial court.
