Mansehra: According to a recent news report, forest guards survived a gun attack in the Shergar area of Mansehra. Guards were assaulted by armed timber smugglers as the former rushed to the Agror Tanawal forest division to stop the latter from illegally cutting down trees, according to sub-divisional forest officer Saeed Wazir. The gunmen fled, he said, leaving behind illegally cut beams.
The official confirmed that he had officially demanded that the police book the assailants. He added that the police had also been ordered to detain timber smugglers Ghulam Haider and Mohammad Nazeer so that legal action could be taken against them. Mules were used to smuggle timber in alpine forests, according to Mr. Wazir, but successful patrolling had limited their movement.
