Karachi: According to a recent news report, The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and the Sindh Building Control Authority have been ordered by the Sindh High Court to take action against unauthorized construction on footpaths in the PECHS district.

The court asked the council about the authority responsible for protecting the footpaths from encroachments in the PECHS area while hearing a petition about encroachments on footpaths and illegal development in the area.
The court lamented the fact that no department was able to assume responsibility for the conservation of land set aside for recreational purposes. The KMC, according to the attorney, was responsible for protecting the footpaths from encroachment.

According to the petitioner’s lawyer, a private respondent encroached on a footpath and built an unauthorised structure in violation of the construction by-laws. The court ordered the KMC and the SBCA to take action and file an enforcement report in response to the unauthorised construction on the footpath. It also served notes and invited responses from the private respondent and others.
