Karachi: According to news reports, the Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) to demolish 130 residences erected on state land designated for road development on Tuesday (November 16).
The order was issued during a case hearing involving the encroachment of state land in Anda Mor, New Karachi, which is located in the district central to Monghopir, which is located in the district west.
The two-judge bench led by Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput directed the municipal corporation to compensate homeowners prior to house demolition and present a compliance report with the court within one month, according to the information.
The SHC, however, ordered land recovery in 2006, although it was never carried out. The court also ordered the KMC administration to provide alternative land to the residents and to postpone demolition until the compensation process was concluded.
