Karachi: According to media sources, the Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered the authorities responsible to halt demolishing and sealing commercial and industrial units in Mehran Town on Friday (October 1).

Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi presided over a single-judge panel that issued letters to the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Karachi Development Authority (KDA), advocate general, and local government secretary for October 20.

The SHC’s interim restraining order will be regarded null and void if the Supreme Court (SC) issues any order concerning the land where the plots were located, according to reports. Furthermore, due to the exploitation of residential plots for commercial purposes, the KDA has annulled assignment orders for 1,400 plots in Mehran Town, Korangi.

Three lawsuits have been filed against an industrial unit in Mehran Town, according to the details. All 160 sq yd plots were designed for industrial use, according to the counsel, and the plot owners were given no-objection certificates for commercial and industrial use.

It was also discovered that the plaintiffs were conducting legitimate business while the defendants were attempting to demolish the unit without notice with the approval of the relevant authorities.
