Bajaur: Seven businesses, including two restaurants and a bakery, were destroyed after a fire broke out in a shop in Khar Bazaar on Thursday, according to officials from the district administration and Rescue 1122.

According to them, a fire broke out at a bakery late Wednesday night, possibly owing to an electric short-circuit. The fire swiftly spread to six establishments on both sides of the bakery, they said.

A team of firefighters from Rescue 1122 arrived at the scene an hour later with two fire engines, but by that time, all seven businesses and their contents had been reduced to ashes, according to the traders.

In a news statement, Abdullah, a spokesman for Rescue 1122, noted that the fire was prevented from spreading to neighbouring stores thanks to the efforts of Rescue 1122 firefighters, who worked for more than two hours.

According to a statement released by the district administration, a team of authorities went to the bazaar soon after the incident to inspect the businesses that were damaged.

Meanwhile, during a news conference, Khar traders association president Haji Lali Shah expressed severe concern about the tragedy and asked on the government and the district administration to provide financial support to the affected traders. He claimed that the dealers had sustained a financial loss of at least Rs. 50 million.
