Karachi: According to news reports, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) approved the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) and the Leh Nullah Expressway during its 56th meeting on Thursday (October 28).
The Ring Road project was referred to the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) for final clearance in order to obtain permission from the federal government, according to a senior official (whose name was not disclosed).
He went on to state that the proposal to build Special Economic Zones (SEZs) along the RRR had been scrapped to save money on land acquisition. The SEZs, however, were reportedly cancelled since the initiative was not established under a public-private collaboration and was instead pursued as an annual development project.
Giving further facts about the PKR 10 billion RRR, it will be a bypass, rather than a Ring Road, to transport heavy traffic from G.T. Road to the motorway. The Provincial Development Working Party had approved both projects, according to RDA Director General (DG) Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah.
He said that connecting G.T Road from Banth to the Thallian Interchange Motorway was cost-effective, practical, and realistic. He further revealed that Prime Minister Imran Khan planned to break ground on December 25.
