Islamabad: According to press reports, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar announced legislation on the Rent Control Act for Islamabad in an upcoming joint session of Parliament on Thursday (November 04). The Rent Restriction Ordinance 2001 will be amended to meet the challenges and concerns of traders.

The minister claimed at an event in Islamabad that parliament’s passage of the legislation will satisfy a long-standing desire of the capital city’s shopkeepers while simultaneously preserving renters’ and landlords’ rights. The traders informed the minister that traders and enterprises were forcibly evicted under earlier regulations, which had a negative impact.

He also invited Islamabad businesspeople to a formal meeting to discuss parking issues in the city’s major commercial districts. Two parking plazas in Blue Area and F-8 were previously granted by the authorities. He also called Shakeel Munir, the President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) and Industry, to talk about the creation of industrial zones around Islamabad.
