“The civic body requested that the government begin work on Kutchery Chowk first, then go on to the Defense Chowk remodelling project, and shift the money allotted for the Defense Chowk project to the Kutchery Chowk project because it was more vital,” stated a senior RDA official.
RDA has produced PC-I for the remodelling of Kutchery Chowk and Defence Chowk and submitted it to the Planning and Development Board for approval. Kutchery Chowk is expected to cost Rs3.630 billion to build, while Defence Chowk would cost Rs2.200 billion to build.

In its yearly development programme, the government earmarked Rs300 million each for Kutchery Chowk and Defence Chowk in front of Shifa Eye Hospital and Fauji Foundation Hospital, according to a top RDA official. He explained that if RDA launched both projects at the same time, it would cause traffic congestion, so they chose to start with Kutchery Chowk and then go on to Defence Chowk.
