Islamabad: According to news reports, Pakistan Railways inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China North Industries Group Corporation (Norinco) on Thursday (November 12) to implement an enhanced customer facilitation initiative using an information technology (IT)-based strategy.

According to the information provided, the Chinese company will complete the project in ten years utilising the Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) method. While speaking at the event, Chairman of the Ministry of Railways Habibur Rehman Gilani revealed that the Chinese company will implement the project with no financial commitment from the Railways. He went on to say that the Pakistan Railways will get a fair share in the ticket price and freight and value-added services.

Furthermore, the project is part of the Ministry of Railways’ Railway Automated Booking and Travel Assistance (Rabta) project, which aims to increase the efficiency of Pakistan Railways. Customers can plan and book a trip using a single interface under this concept. Customers will be able to select seats, book a car, book a hotel, monitor train status, order meals and refreshments, and purchase tickets.
