Lahore: According to news reports, Punjab Minister for Higher Education and Information Technology (IT) Raja Yassir Humayun announced on Wednesday (November 10) that 20 startups had been selected to participate in the Dubai Expo 2020 through the Punjab Information Technology Board’s (PITB) Startup Punjab Portal.

Minister Humayun said at a news conference at the Directorate General of Public Relations (DGPR) that all of the businesses were chosen based on their development, potential effect, investment readiness, startup domain, and revenue through a transparent approach. He went on to say that the team’s strength and presenting skills were also taken into account.
Other events include the signing of memorandums of understanding with Dubai-based organisations to support startups in Punjab, South Asia’s New Hub of ICT – Punjab, Pakistan, Startup Exhibition & Startup Moot, Panel discussions on the Startup Ecosystem, the launch of the Startup Punjab Portal, and a seminar on ‘Showcasing Strengths & Opportunities in Punjab’s ICT Sector.

According to reports, Dubai Expo 2020 began on October 1 and will end on March 31, 2022. Pakistani participants will present their ideas over the next six months in the hopes of attracting funding. Punjab’s Startup Ecosystem will be on display in November under the subject ‘Startups & Innovation.’
It is pertinent to mention that Startup Punjab is an online portal being introduced to bridge the gap between Pakistani startups and International stakeholders under ‘Invest in Punjab, Buy from Punjab, and Work for Punjab.’ The portal will be launched soon by Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar.
