Lahore: On August 24, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar announced the start of 200 new development projects across the province, according to news reports. In this regard, the chief minister has given Secretary of Housing Dr. Zafar Nasrallah three days to call a meeting.

In order to combat the mushrooming of illegal housing schemes, the proposed projects include the construction of overhead bridges, underpasses, and signal-free corridors in Lahore, as well as the adoption of Lahore Development Authority rules by all housing control authorities throughout the province. The government intends to develop land-use regulations similar to the LDA and implement them in other housing regulatory bodies.

In addition, the projects call for the construction of underground water storage tanks in various parts of the province to collect rainwater. At the upcoming meeting held under Secretary Housing, Director General LDA Ahmad Aziz Trar will provide an update to the Directors General (DGs) of Development Authorities and Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASAs) from Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, and Rawalpindi. CM Buzdar wants all of the province’s major towns to be built in the same style as Lahore, according to sources.
