Lahore: According to news reports, Punjab Finance Minister Hashim Jawan Bakht announced the disbursement of PKR 47 billion for the District Development Programme (DDP) across the province on Tuesday (October 26). The funds will be used to fund 3,605 development projects around the province on an equal basis.

According to the specifics, the monies were announced for the district development programme at the start of the fiscal year 2021-22, and were intended to address districts’ concerns about unequal development fund expenditure.

Lahore will receive cash for 234 development projects out of the total number of projects. Furthermore, these money would be invested in ten districts across the province, seven of which are in South Punjab and have poor socio-economic characteristics.

Punjab Finance Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo commented on the selection and criteria for allocating cash, saying that a detailed investigation was undertaken before announcing the findings and that the focus was on inclusive development.
