Rawalpindi: According to news reports, to ensure that police officer are prompt and regular, the Punjab police administration has chosen to use a biometric attendance system in 750 police stations across the state, including 66 in Rawalpindi Division.

Thirty of the 66 police stations are in Rawalpindi, including the lone women’s police station, fourteen in Chakwal, and eleven in Jhelum. The biometric attendance system will be operational until June 10, 2021, as the police department has purchased machines for the purpose.

After being implemented at 750 police stations around the province, the biometric attendance system will be implemented in the offices of key police officers such as SSPs, SPs, and DSPs.

Inspector-General of Police Punjab Inam Ghani has directed that a responsible officer be delegated to collect the biometric machines (police station wise from Central Police Office Store Lahore after consultation with additional inspector general of police/logistic before June 3, 2021) in a letter to divisional police chiefs across the province.

The authorities further announced that before June 10, 2021, the fingerprints of every police officer (constable to inspector) will be captured in the Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) using these devices, allowing for fast biometric attendance reporting.

The biometric attendance system was established in 15 police stations in Rawalpindi district in October last year to ensure that police officer were punctual and regular. The installation of the equipment is another step in the force’s modernization. According to a senior police official, scientific technology is critical for good change in police culture and efficiency gains.

He claims that the action would not only overhaul the police station attendance system but would also ensure the presence of top police officers in their offices, as the bulk of them arrive late.
