Lahore: According to news reports, the Punjab Home Department has recommended allocating Rs 5 billion to over 150 projects run by the Prisons Department, the Directorate of Monitoring, the Child Protection Bureau, and the Directorate of Monitoring, all of which are subsidiary departments. The Prisons Department has sought a budget of Rs 3 billion for 35 initiatives.
New jails are being built in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Khushab, Nankana, Chiniot, Multan, and Rahim Yar Khan as part of the Prisons Department’s plans. It is intended to spend Rs 196 million to build new Child Protection Bureau units, expand the Punjab Forensic Agency to the district level, and update the Punjab High Patrol Police’s 356 checkpoints. In Punjab, it has been recommended to spend Rs 70 million on computerization plans for security businesses’ data.
