Karachi: According to news reports, the Energy Department finalised the Garbage-to-Energy Policy 2021 on Tuesday (November 2) after enterprises approached the province government to create power and gas from waste in Jam Chakro.

According to the information provided, Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh presided over a meeting during which the policy’s goals and objectives were addressed. The companies would first create 150 megawatts (MW) from garbage generated in the city, according to reports. The policy’s objectives and goals were discussed at the meeting.
The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) general director said there were two landfill sites: 450 acres in Gond Pass and 500 acres in Jam Chakra. On a daily basis, the city produced 10,000 tonnes of garbage. The attendees were told that the garbage might create 200 MW of power. In addition, the managing director stated that the power generated at Jam Chakro may be easily transferred to the distribution firm, which has a grid station nearby.

Minister Imtiaz Shaikh remarked that the government’s major goal was to clean up Karachi’s waste by turning it into energy. He went on to state that the Waste-to-Energy Policy would be presented to the provincial government.
