Rawalpindi: After receiving clearance from the Punjab Planning and Development Board, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) formally approved two big projects: the Leh Nullah Expressway and the Rawalpindi Ring Road, although it abandoned plans to develop special economic zones along the Ring Road.

RDA governing board Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza presided over the authority’s governing body meeting, which was place in the commissioner’s office on Thursday. Commissioner Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah, who also serves as the RDA’s director general, was also in attendance.

The RDA’s governing body convened for the 56th time. Mr Mehmood stated that the government has given the inhabitants of Rawalpindi and Islamabad two huge projects: the Rawalpindi Ring Road and the Leh Expressway and Flood Channel.

According to a senior official with the Punjab Planning and Development Board, the Ring Road project, which is valued more than Rs10 billion, was sent to the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) for final clearance because the federal government’s permission was required.
