Islamabad: The National Logistics Cell (NLC) has started piling work on the I.J. Principal Road upgrade. Along with two other projects, Prime Minister Imran Khan broke ground on the road’s revamping project last month.
The NLC, which had been given the contract, began preparing the piles following soil testing at four sites where bridges would be built, according to CDA officials. They estimated that full-scale construction on the project would begin in about a month.

Last month, the contract worth Rs. 4.9 billion was won by NLC after it submitted the lowest bid. The CDA had invited only government companies to take part in the bidding process. The project, which includes a road renovation and enlargement with the addition of two rigid lanes on each side for heavy trucks, is expected to be finished in 18 months, according to authorities.

On the busiest junction of I.J. Principal Road – 9th Avenue and Stadium Road – an interchange will be built. At the junction of I.J. Principal and Faqir Ipi Road, a flyover will be erected. At Katarian halt and near Sabzi Mandi, Pirwadhai, one bridge will be built each. The I.J. Principal Route is not an inter-provincial road; rather, it was designed to connect two sectors, I and J.
