Islamabad: The first flight from Multan to Skardu was operated by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Sunday.

According to reports in the local media, the first flight took off from Multan airport with 167 people on board. The move will allow residents of South Punjab easy access to the country’s northern regions, according to a PIA spokesperson The PIA currently operates direct flights to Skardu from six cities.

PIA had previously launched its Air Safari flights in an effort to boost tourism in the country. With 91 tourists on board, including foreign nationals from as many as 13 countries, the airline’s first scenic Air Safari flight took off from Islamabad International Airport.
