Islamabad: According to news sources, the Parliamentary Committee on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), chaired by Sher Ali Arbab, declared that Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are of little value without colonisation and the prompt establishment of enterprises.

These remarks were made by the chairman committee while analysing the progress of industry establishment in SEZs around the country. Members of the committee urged the government and other interested parties to implement legislation that would enable and protect investment in SEZs, including the provision of security for businesses and international investors.

The committee was also informed about the clearances and No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) given to industrialists for the development of industrial facilities. Members and secretaries from different government organisations informed the conference on the current state of security measures for CPEC projects, the Mainline-1 (ML-1) project with a specific focus on the Electric Traction (ET) component, and the latest developments on special economic zones.

In addition, the committee recommended that, in addition to focusing on industries and agriculture-related projects, Pakistan should also prioritise the development of the country’s tourism business.
