Islamabad: According to press reports, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said on Wednesday (September 29) that the online tax returns submission site – IRIS – is operational and that filers should use the system to submit their income tax returns before the deadline ends.

According to the information supplied, IRIS had previously crashed due to hundreds of people attempting to file tax returns. The FBR had increased the capacity of its system in order to deliver extraordinary services to taxpayers. It was also claimed that on September 28, 150,000 returns were filed, which was the biggest number of returns ever filed in a single day.

Furthermore, the FBR emphasised that the September 30 deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2021 will not be extended (TY-21). Working hours will be extended till midnight today to accommodate the greatest number of filers. To avoid problems, the FBR has asked taxpayers to file income tax forms before the deadline.
