Islamabad: According to reports, on Monday, Prime Minister Imran Khan is expected to inaugurate the 32-kilometer-long Margalla Avenue project.
According to sources, CDA‘s team stayed busy over the weekend preparing for the inauguration ceremony. The Margalla Avenue was part of Islamabad’s master plan from 1960, but it has yet to be built.

However, the current government has agreed to build this road from Sangjani to Satra Meel on the G.T. Road. Last month, the CDA board agreed to work with the Ministry of Defense on this initiative.
The ministry’s Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) and National Logistic Cell (NLC) are subsidiary organizations that specialize in road construction, and the CDA board needs to see this project completed quickly.
According to the board, some strategic and defense communication infrastructure and installations are situated in different parts of the project’s alignment, so it should be handled by the Ministry of Defense.
Following that, the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) recommended that the federal government conduct this project using a single tender earlier this month after relaxing its regulations.
According to sources, CDA had originally planned to build only a 10-kilometer road from G.T. Road to D-12, leaving the second package to Satra Meel for the next project. The CDA had also called a tender for a 10-kilometer section, but it had to cancel it recently, as per the sources, because the federal government had ordered CDA not to complete this important project in parts, but rather to complete the entire 32-kilometer road in one go.

According to sources, this road will be a part of the Rawalpindi Ring Road since it will link to the Ring Road near G.T. Road and then connect to the eastern bypass near Satra Meel. They claimed that FWO would construct the route.
According to them, a change in alignment has been determined, and Margalla Avenue will be connected to Murree Road after crossing Bhara Kahu.
As per the current master plan, it begins on G.T. Road and travels through different areas before reaching Constitution Avenue on the Bari Imam side before ending on Murree Road at Bhara Kahu. Officials from the CDA said that plans for the inauguration are being made on both ends of the road, one near Sangjani and the other near Quaid-i-Azam University and that the PM Office will choose the location.
