Rawalpindi: According to news reports, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan said on Wednesday (September 29) that the National Logistics Cell (NLC) has begun work on the Islamabad/Inter Junction Principal Route (IJP) road. Minister Khan shared this information during a Senate meeting, stating that the PKR 4.9 billion project will take 18 months to complete.

The above-mentioned project was put out to tender in July of this year. To relieve traffic congestion on IJP Road, there will be two bridges and two flyovers, as well as flyovers on 9th Avenue and IJP Road and two bridges at Kattarian and Pirwadhai, according to the proposed design.

The minister further stated that the main IJP route was last repaired in 2016-17 and is currently in a condition of disrepair. According to reports, the IJP road connects Rawalpindi and Punjab and is one of Islamabad’s busiest thoroughfares.

Minister Ali Muhammad further indicated that the government plans to build a dam on the Soan River with a capacity of 15 million gallons. The dam will be built in collaboration between the Punjab government and the Capital Development Authority (CDA). After the project is completed, the twin cities’ water issues will be better addressed.
