Islamabad: The National Highway Authority (NHA) is planned to use its newly developed Geographical Information System (GIS) to eliminate encroachments, increase revenue, and plan projects.

In the following days, a state-of-the-art control centre will be operating at NHA’s headquarters in Islamabad to successfully run the programme. The NHA’s Road Assets Management Directorate (RAMD) is in charge of running the system.

GIS is a sophisticated and effective tool for managing and integrating the various types of data required for transportation system and facility planning, design, construction, analysis, operation, maintenance, and administration.

NHA was able to locate around 90,000 commercial facilities along ROW limitations thanks to GIS. GIS is being used by transportation departments all over the world to achieve a variety of benefits, including asset inventory, digitalization, analysis, and decision-making.
