Lahore: The Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) was fined Rs. 500,000 by the Lahore High Court on Tuesday for changing counsel on every other hearing and filing unjustified motions for vacation of stay against the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project.

When Advocate Shazib Masud arrived to plead an application of Ruda against the stay, Justice Shahid Karim was hearing the major petitions against the project. The judge was dissatisfied with Ruda’s habit of regularly changing its legal counsel. He said that the practise revealed government malfeasance.
Ruda has previously changed four lawyers, without first obtaining a necessary no objection certificate from each of his predecessors, according to Justice Karim. He said that the most recent lawyer likewise showed up without the prior counsel’s NOC.

The government and Ruda’s motions were rejected as withdrawn by the judge, who also fined the authority Rs. 500,000. The CEO was also chastised by the judge for submitting the application without his signature.
The CEO asked the court for an apology, claiming that the initiative was in the public interest. He said that the government had been unable to construct a road owing to the project’s halt. The judge remarked that the affairs of Ruda showed that the multi-billion
