Lahore: According to news reports, Director General (DG) Ahmad Aziz Tarar of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has forwarded a summary of two road infrastructure development projects on Walton Road to Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar for clearance.
On Khalid Butt Chowk and Ghora Chowk, the PKR 2.8 billion project includes the building of a dual-lane two-way underpass and one flyover, respectively.
A dual road underpass would be created on Khalid Butt Chowk, while a single two-lane flyover will be built from Ghora Chowk to Walton Road, according to the plans. Walton Road will be converted into a traffic-free route as part of the project. The signal-free corridor, which is 5 kilometres long, will start from Central Point Gulberg.
The Defence Mor will also be remodelled, and Walton Road will be recarpeted and restored. In ten months, the entire construction and infrastructure development project will be completed. LDA has requested that funding from the current fiscal year’s budget be released in this regard. The proposed project of protected U-turns on Khalid Majid Chowk Cavalry Ground and Defence Mor has been cancelled by the LDA.
