Peshawar: According to news reports, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) agreed on Tuesday to establish 10 economic zones and 19 minor industrial estates over the next ten years, as well as two special economic zones over the following five years, as part of the industrial policy 2020.

Small industrial estates in Dera Ismail (DI) Khan, Dara Adamkhel, Abbottabad, Bannu, Mardan, and Khyber were declared special economic zones during a meeting presided over by KP Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan.

The conference also adopted the Industrial Policy 2020 action plan, as well as the creation of a 15-member oversight and implementation committee. According to sources, Abdul Karim, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Industries, would lead the group and oversee the implementation of industrial strategy.

Ghazi, Swat, Chitral, Buner, and Daraban, among other areas, would be designated as new economic zones. In addition, it has been stated that sector-specific economic zones would be formed in a number of districts around the province. Aside from that, the new industrial strategy will involve the building of approach roads to industrial units, infrastructure development, and waste management efficiency.
