Peshawar: According to news reports, the Auqaf department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has resolved to take strong action against the land mafia in order to reclaim valuable land from their hands.
According to sources, after Chief Minister Mehmood Khan’s consent, a province-wide operation will be begun. “Some 78 percent of valuable lands belonging to the Endowment Department in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been occupied by the powerful land mafia”.
According to data, the land mafia has illegally seized 50,612 Kanals in the province, out of a total of 65,108. The department now holds authority over 13,763 Kanals of land, or about 21% of the entire land area, with 734 Kanals of land in dispute in several courts.
The administration of each district will execute a comprehensive operation to recover the said land after receiving special clearance from the chief minister.
Local bodies, administration, police, education, and health have also taken over 1,451 Kanals of Auqaf Department land in various cities around the province without paying a single penny to the department.
According to a source, the department has decided to enter into a lease arrangement with the affected departments, requiring them to pay rent for the use of the assets.
