Karachi: According to a recent news report, the city administrator stated that certain arrangement needs to be made for the upcoming monsoon rains including devising a strategy for storm-water drainage.

City Administrator Laeeq Ahmed, speaking at a meeting on the rain emergency, advised all engineers involved in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to conduct a comprehensive survey of the sites and tail-end areas.

“Pumps should be available at all times,” he added, “and preparations should be made in light of the forecasted heavy rains this year.”

The administrator stated that the KMC currently has 17 drainage pumps and that drainage work could be completed quicker with the procurement of four additional heavy-duty pumps.

He ordered the municipal utilities, works, and other authorities to work together to ensure cooperation and develop a collaborative plan for dealing with rain emergencies.

He added that the departments should share a full list of officers and staff working in all departments to ensure that officers and staff are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In light of the forecasted rain, he said that rainwater drainage, especially in underpasses, should be ensured.
