Karachi: Director General (DG) Asif Ali Memon of the Karachi Development Authorities (KDA) has warned that if residential buildings are used for commercial purposes, the authority will withdraw the allotment. The authority will not allow non-conforming use of land under its jurisdiction, according to DG Asif.

He was speaking to the media after touring Mehran Town, where a fire broke out in an illegally built factory on a residential plot, killing a number of people. He stated that any industries built on residential plots in Mehran Town would be given 15 days to restore the plots to their former state, failing which the authorities would revoke allocations and properties and take legal action against the owners under Section 15.

After a fire broke out at a factory that had been erected illegally on a residential property, several persons were killed. Because it had not been certified by the building control authorities, the plant also lacked an emergency exit.
