Islamabad: According to press reports, Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated a computerised cadastral map of Islamabad. The Islamabad Cadastral Mapping Project was completed by the Pakistan Survey to eliminate tampering in land transactions and ownership records.

The same maps will be finished for Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad by November 2021, and the remainder of the country by the middle of 2022.

The governor said at the opening that the initiative would help individuals verify property ownership, which would decrease the possibility of forced occupancy and encroachment on public territory. According to a government-run Twitter account, the cadastral provides:

  • Tenure Information
  • Lesser land litigation cases
  • Land Conflict Resolution
  • The improved Taxation collection mechanism
  • Reduction in Corrupt practices and land grabbing

Despite the fact that billions of dollars are at stake, the PM claimed that the state machinery is not adequate to the task of liberating public land from illicit possession and encroachment. According to him, the NADRA has created a mechanism to help people in learning more about a certain project.
