According to news reports, the K2 base camp area recently received internet and phone signals following the 4G Base Transceiver Station (BTS) installation in Gilgit-Baltistan, with the service being turned on by the Special Communication Organization (SCO). It is a significant development because it will enable mountaineers and trekking groups to communicate with their families and request assistance in an emergency.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been working with telecom operators to boost telecommunication services in areas with high tourism potential, and this growth is expected to aid weather monitoring and adventure tourism promotion.
In honour of the fallen mountaineer, the 4G BTS has been mounted in Concordia, renamed Ali Sadpara. The project is part of the incumbent government’s Gilgit Baltistan Development Package, while Prime Minister Imran Khan initiated the 4G BTS.
