Rawalpindi: According to a recent news report, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has conducted raids in different areas and have collected a huge amount of fine, on the special orders of the Director-General (DG) RDA Abdul Sattar Issani.
The raids were part of a wider operation by the RDA to tackle unregulated housing schemes and unlicensed building. An under-construction building at Eidgah Scheme, Asghar Mall Lane, has been sealed by the enforcement staff of the Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering (MP&TE) Directorate and the RDA’s Land Use and Building Control (LU&BC) Wing.
The managing director of an unlawful housing scheme has since been charged with a felony. The LU&BC Wing also displayed panaflex against illegal structures along GT Road, urging people not to invest in any illegal project that has not been approved by RDA authorities.
Five illegal housing schemes have also been given challans by the MP&TE Directorate. Other housing schemes obtained notifications from the authority, and fees/charges totalling Rs. 85.10 million were collected from various private housing schemes.
The Building Control Wing was cracking down on illegal, unauthorized commercial and residential construction activities, including plazas, stores, schools, and other illegal structures, on the DG’s orders.
The DG had instructed the authorities concerned to take strict action against encroachments, illegal and unauthorized development, and commercial activities in residential areas without discrimination, according to an RDA spokesman. He added that the RDA had advised people not to invest in any illegal or unlicensed project.
