Karachi: According to press reports, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) declared on Wednesday that bank house loans for the Mera Pakistan Mera Ghar (MPMG) had increased considerably in recent months.

Banks have granted PKR 59 billion in funding thus far, out of a total of PKR 154 billion in financing requests. In August alone, banks disbursed PKR 3.8 billion, a 49 percent increase over the previous month.

This brings the total money distributed under the project to PKR 11.5 billion since its commencement. The improvement in overall disbursement is attributed to the central bank’s favourable policies, according to the central bank.

The apex bank also released a list of banks that authorised the highest loans to consumers, with Meezan Bank leading the list with PKR 9.53 billion, Standard Chartered Bank (PKR 9.49 billion), and Habib Bank Limited (PKR 9.49 billion).

Bank Alfalah, on the other hand, topped the list of banks with PKR 1.31 billion in funds disbursed, followed by Meezan Bank with PKR 1.22 billion and the National Bank of Pakistan with PKR 1.15 billion.

Banks accepted 39 percent of MPMG house loan applications, with 19 percent of those who were authorised receiving funds. Under the programme, commercial banks have started accepting applications from all throughout the nation through 8,000 authorised locations.
