Gwadar: In a piece of recent news, the Secretary Aviation Division assured the Parliamentary Committee on the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) at a recent meeting that development on the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) was on track and that it would be completely operational by September 2023.

Sher Ali Arbab, the committee’s chairman, presided over the meeting. He emphasised that Gwadar served as a gateway to CPEC and was indisputably crucial to the project’s overall purpose.

The committee also instructed the responsible agencies to accelerate the payments to be paid among the affected persons of destroyed houses and land acquisitions, so that residents in Gwadar, who are already protesting for basic amenities of life, can be reimbursed.

D.I. Khan, Chairman, WAPDA, informed the committee that the feasibility study and detailed technical design for the Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) will be completed by March next year.

The chairman stated that the project was critical for the agriculture sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the committee resolved to have a special follow-up meeting on the project in February of the following year.
