Lower Dir: The government contractors’ association, Malakand division announced an indefinite strike against the government for its failure to release funds for the work done by the contractors on different development projects.

A meeting of the district presidents and general secretaries of the association in this regard was held in Chakdara with the divisional president Ikramullah in the chair. The representatives of contractors from Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Chitral, Bajaur, Swat, Malakand and Buner attended the meeting.
They said that the government had to pay billions of rupees to the contractors for the completed projects in various districts of Malakand division. They said that they had no other option, but to stop work on the ongoing development projects due to lack of funds.

The speakers said that they had secured loans on tough conditions for payment to the skilled and unskilled laborers with the hope that the government would soon release the funds, but despite passage of three years they were not paid.
The contractors also demanded an end to undue interference by lawmakers in development schemes.
