Gilgit: According to press reports, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved the PKR 21.27 billion Attabad Power Project, which will generate 54MW.

According to a spokesperson for Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister (CM) Imtiaz Ali Taj, work on the Attabad Power Project would begin this fiscal year and be finished in four years. He went on to say that this initiative will help the Gilgit division as a whole, not simply the Hunza Valley, solve its electricity crisis.

Furthermore, the spokesperson claimed that the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan concentrated on the energy sector as part of the Gilgit-Baltistan Comprehensive Development Plan to address the issue of load-shedding. He went on to remark that the federal Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) includes a number of big initiatives. The government also aims to establish 200MW power projects in Gilgit-Baltistan under the PPP model, according to reports.

Imtiaz Ali, the spokesperson, told the reporters that the PC-II of the Shatung Nalla diversion in Skardu had also been approved.
