Islamabad: According to news reports, a French group visited Pakistan and expressed interest in establishing ski resorts in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and investing in the country’s tourism sector.

The French group, led by Honorary Investment Counsellor in France Federico Juan Thomas Espana, met with the Secretary of the Board of Investment (BoI), Fareena Mazhar, to discuss possible areas for investment in the tourism sector.

A visit to Phandar, Nagar, Astore, Skardu, and Ghizer districts was organised by the BoI in coordination with the GB government.

Furthermore, the BoI stated that the French delegation’s visit is the result of a Zoom meeting between the BoI secretary and the honorary investment counsellor in September. During the meeting, BoI informed the French delegation about the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on information exchange, investment facilitation and cooperation, and knowledge sharing that it had signed with Business France.

In addition, Secretary Mazhar of the Board of Investment briefed the group on the new investment strategy for 2020-23, which was introduced to encourage international investment. The 22 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) were explained to the French investors, and they were asked to set up shop.
