Bahawalpur: After a year, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) resumed flights between Karachi and Bahawalpur. Following the outbreak of Covid-19 across the region, the PIA halted flights to Bahawalpur in March 2020.

According to PIA station manager Mansoor Lodhi, PIA’s 48-seat ATR aircraft carrying 24 passengers from Karachi landed here, and flight No 589-PK with 35 passengers returned to Karachi after a half-hour stoppage. The PIA and airport staff members greeted and escorted passengers and all who boarded flights from here upon their arrival.

The dispatched passengers from Bahawalpur were accommodated in the aircraft in strict accordance with Covid-19 SOPs, according to the station manager, with the middle row remaining vacant. It may be recalled that the PIA began flying to Karachi twice a week, on Thursdays and Mondays, from the Bahawalpur airport. Meanwhile, residents, especially the business community, have demanded that PIA management resume flight operations from Bahawalpur airport to Lahore and Islamabad.
