Lahore: According to media sources, European Agency Country Director Philippe Steinmetz indicated on Wednesday (November 17) that work on Lahore’s first wastewater treatment plant, Babu Sabu Water Treatment Plant, will begin in January 2023.

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) conducted a meeting to discuss the treatment plant’s development. Syed Zahid Aziz, the agency’s Managing Director (MD) in Lahore, presided over the meeting. During the discussion, the WASA MD directed the involved officials to address concerns with the wastewater treatment plan as soon as possible.

The PKR 60 billion project would reportedly be completed in stages. The European Agency will give financial and technical support for the project management unit, according to the MD.

The wastewater treatment plant will be funded by the European Agency. The city’s sewage water will be purified and dumped into the Ravi River under this plan. The initiative intends to reduce pollution in the water of the River Ravi and handle related environmental issues.
