The National Economic Council’s Executive Committee (Ecnec) authorised satellite technology, communication, power, and education projects on Wednesday. Shaukat Tarin, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance and Revenue, presided over the Ecnec meeting on Wednesday.
The proposal is for the construction of a 69-kilometer-long, four-lane-wide Sambrial-Kharian Motorway with six-lane constructions. The Planning Commission and the Ministry of Communication were praised at the conference for their efforts in concluding the project as a public-private partnership.
The Ecnec also approved the second amended project for the new Gwadar International Airport. The second amended project calls for the development of a new Gwadar International Airport, as well as ancillary infrastructure, on land that has already been purchased.

The new airport will replace Gwadar’s current airport, which has a small terminal and limited capacity. It will be suited for larger planes like the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747 and 777, among others.
The project will aid in the development of indigenous capacity in the disciplines of space/satellite technology and its applications, as well as Suparco’s institutional capacity building and the promotion of high-tech R&D activities. The project will also assist Pakistan in gaining self-sufficiency in satellite technologies.
