At the inauguration of the e-Abiana (water tax) billing system at 90 Shahrea Quaid-e-Azam, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar was present. He announced that the century-old practice of collecting water taxes had come to an end since the introduction of the e-Abiana billing system.

He clarified that the e-Abiana system was first introduced in the Canal Divisions of Khanwa, Layyah, Kasur, and Sheikhupura and that it would eventually be implemented throughout the province. Under the new system, farmers will receive computerized water cess bills, which will reduce farmer harassment and corruption.

It’s worth noting that the proposed scheme would ensure timely water payments as well as financial assistance for canal maintenance.
