Karachi: According to media sources, Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab announced on Monday (November 15) that the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) has begun a door-to-door waste collection service in all 31 union councils in the East District.
Changyi Kangjie, a Chinese company, was awarded the contract to collect waste in the East District. The administrator claims that SSWMB has put in place a procedure to remove rubbish from the district’s jurisdiction. Garbage disposal stations (Kachra Kundis) will also be removed from the city to improve the system’s efficiency.
Furthermore, the administrator emphasised that the government should take harsh action against people who gather garbage from people’s doors and charge exorbitant rates. According to SSWMB Managing Director Zubair Channa, waste backlogs have been eliminated in the districts where the board was working. He went on to say that the door-to-door service was created to prevent waste from being thrown on the streets.
