However, on Friday (September 17), the National Highway Authority (NHA) proposed a more cost-effective alternative. The proposed interchange, according to NHA, would cost PKR 550 million, in addition to a design adjustment on the Sambrial-Kharian Motorway, further delaying project completion.
Instead, the NHA recommended a direct airport link road, which was agreed during a recent meeting on Wednesday (September 15). SIAL Chairman Khawaja Masood stated that the management is attempting to obtain government clearance for such an extension and has given financial support in this regard. According to him, establishing an interchange and direct link to the airport will boost local business and improve connectivity.

According to the proposed map for the M-11, the airport is only 500 metres from the highway. For connectivity, two different ramps have been created on both sides of the highway near the airport.
Chairman Masood also noted that Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar has already approved the PKR 300 million re-carpeting of the Sialkot and Sambrial roundabouts, as well as the 6.5-kilometer route (from Sambrial dry port to Sialkot Airport).
