Gilgit: According to media sources, the Parliamentary Committee on the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) advocated allocating USD 250 million for the socioeconomic development of Gilgit-Baltistan.

While speaking at a regional dialogue on ‘The Role of Parliament in Promoting Trade, Agriculture, and Tourism under CPEC, GB,’ Parliamentary Committee on CPEC Chairman Sher Ali Arbab stated that a national conference will be held in Islamabad in December to address the concerns of all regions regarding their share in CPEC. He went on to clarify that the conference will be open to all stakeholders, including representatives from the United Kingdom.

Furthermore, Chief Minister (CM) Khalid Khurshid Khan stated that the Thakot to Raikot Motorway, Ghizer-Shandur Road, a new road from Skardu to Islamabad, and the Shontor tunnel will improve GB’s connectivity. The Chinese ambassador to Pakistan, Nong Rong, spoke through video link and emphasised that this multibillion-dollar initiative will give qualitative development in the country.
