Islamabad: According to various sources, the National Highways Authority (NHA) awarded the 69-kilometer Sialkot-Kharian Motorway (M-12) project to a collaboration of Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and SMC Private Limited on Tuesday.

Chairman NHA Khurram Agha presided over the meeting, and it was agreed that the Letter of Intent (LOI) will be issued as soon as feasible. Three construction firms filed bids, and all three were determined to be suitable for the task. The FWO and SMC joint venture was considered to be the greatest fit after thorough consideration.

The project would cost PKR 27.32 billion, and FWO will get PKR 1 billion in annual subsidies from the government through Viability Gap Funding for the next eight years (VGF).

The M-12 highway will have a 60-kilometer main highway and a 9-kilometer connecting expressway. Peru Shah, Jalalpur Jattan, Gulyana, and Daulat Nagar are among the populous localities of Gujrat where it will traverse. The project will come to a close near Kotli Bajar, where it will be connected to G.T Road by a link highway.
